Relation between ventricular fibrillation ECG frequencies and haemodynamic recovery

Abstract:

Assuming that the ECG power spectrum (PS) time course gives information about the metabolic state of the heart during ventricular fibrillation (VF), the authors designed a set of experiments using 24 open-chest anesthetized mongrel dogs: (1) to relate the VF characteristics (just before defibrillation) to the hemodynamic recovery (HDR) after cardioversion and (2) to quantify the effect that different maneuvers, such as open-chest heart massage and cardiopulmonary bypass, produce over PS and HDR, both of them considered as recovery tasks previous to defibrillation.
