Relationship between sexuality and sexting in young people in the center of the ecuadorian highlands

Abstract:

The increase in the use of technologies related to the Internet and especially social networks have caused that younger people enter into the field of sexting. This is creating new ways of learning and understanding sexuality. That is why this research focuses on analyzing sexting practices and their relationship with sexuality, while the differences in these aspects with respect to gender and age are described (18 to 29 years). For this, during 2018, a questionnaire on sexting and sexuality was provided to 281 young people from the Technical University of Ambato (in the center of the Ecuadorian highlands). The results show that one third of respondents has sexted rarely or sometimes, and the most have a good acceptance of sexuality. It was also found that women and younger people practice it with purposes and contexts different from men and older people. In addition, it was observed that the more participation and disposition towards sexting, greater is the perception of sexuality as something natural. It concludes affirming that sexting is another part of sexuality and not something separate from it. Finally, training proposals are made to improve the sexual health of young people.
