Remote monitoring of post-stroke patients suffering from apraxia and action disorganisation syndrome

Abstract:

Apraxia and Action Disorganisation Syndrome are two common neuropsychological disorders following stroke. They can result in cognitive impairments observable during the execution of Activities of Daily Living such as making a cup of tea. Given that these patients rely on families and healthcare systems for support, a new Personal Healthcare System for cognitive rehabilitation of action after stroke is proposed, which will be affordable, customisable and capable of delivering continuous, cognitive rehabilitation at home. The CogWatch (Cognitive Rehabilitation of Apraxia & Action Disorganisation Syndrome) system will exploit intelligent tools and objects, portable and wearable devices as well as ambient systems. The CogWatch Web-Portal, part of the Clinician sub-system, is described here. It aims at reviewing patients’ medical information and assessing performance through remote monitoring by medical and healthcare professionals.
