Report and life cycle of diaphorina citri kuwayama (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) on three host plant species in Lara state, Venezuela

Abstract:

Presence of Diaphorina citri Kuwayama is reported in state of Lara and its life span was studied on Citrus grandis (L.), Citrus limon (L.) Burman and Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack under laboratory conditions (Mean maximum and minimum temperature 29.8 °C± 1.14 and 26.0 °C± 0.89, respectively and 68.5 ± 7.15 % relative humidity). Experiments on life cycle duration were carried out in a completely randomized design, with eight replications per treatment. Daily, observations on life span and length on each developmental stage were made. Duration of life cycle of D. citri did not show significant differences (P=0.05) on three plant species evaluated with mean values 13.5 ± 0.64, 15.0 ± 1.23 and 15.6 ± 1.44 days on C. grandis, M. paniculata and C. limon, respectively. However, effect of host plant on duration of nymph stages II, III and IV was detected, being the development shorter on C. grandis. More studies are required to determine reproductive parameters of this pest ©2007, Sociedad Venezolana de Entomología.
