Report on observations of TeV gamma rays with the Tibet air shower array and future prospects
Abstract:
The Tibet air shower array, which has an effective area of 37,000 m2 and is located at 4300 m above sea level in Tibet, China, is a wide field-of-view gamma-ray telescope above TeV energies and has been successfully operating since 1990. We have a plan aiming at 100 TeV gamma-ray astronomy by adding a large underground water Cherenkov muon detector array (MD array, approximately 10,000 m2) to the existing Tibet air shower array. We report on the current status of the prototype muon detector construction as well as the gamma-ray observations with the Tibet air shower array.
