Research methods applied to cybersecurity
Abstract:
Research in technology development is important to generate functional, adaptable, ecofriendly, and secure solutions. In the academia, there have been many discussions on the importance of using more practical research methods in comparison to the ones social sciences (BSR) have used for behavioral analysis or theory construction. The increasing rate of human-machine interaction have been taking greater relevance, especially with IoT solutions, arising the question of considering BSR methods in an IoT security field. In the present study, we carry out a review of the most used research methods in IoT security, validating that the selection of the most used research methods is focused on the construction and evaluation of IT artifacts. Such can be the case for design science research or controlled experiments. This study pretends to highlight the contribution of BSR research methods on postulating design strategies for cybersecurity in the scope of IoT.
