Residencias Geriã Tricas En El Ecuador
Abstract:
The aim of the present paper is to analyze geriatric centers in the country and in Guayaquil, in order to see the level of acceptance from family members towards the building of a new geriatric center in the city outskirts. The idea is to provide our elders with a nicer, warmer more placid place to spend their golden years. The tools used to gather information were descriptive and conclusive investigation, through interviews and surveys applied to people over 65 we managed to gather information regarding their needs and preferences. The surveys and interviews were applied to a sample population of 384 people; the size of the sample population was determined using the appropriate formula applying it to the reference data provided by INEC which states that the number of people over 65 years of age in Ecuador in their last census is 1.108. 991. When the research process was over we could determine the level of acceptance a private geriatric center would have. It was determined that people would be inclined to use the services of a private geriatric center for their family elders in a temporary bases given that the care provided is done by health care professionals. Family members are willing to pay a monthly amount between $101 and $150. People who were interviewed weren’t familiar with what a geriatric center is, or what it is for, but after a brief explanation the elders were very enthusiastic about it and happy to consider the idea of spending their golden years in such a lovely and safe place.
