Reusing and creating OERs for software engineering training

Abstract:

There is a considerable variety of freely available Open Educational Resources (OERs) that can be used for training purposes. However, they are not always suitable for specific needs or ready for been used immediately, which demands a personalization process. In this article, we present a five-phases methodology used to create or personalize OERs as well as to choose an e-learning platform where to make the resources available for learners. The phases of the methodology consider a set of criteria that can help educators to choose whether to use or personalize an OER rather to create it. As a result of following the proposed methodology, ten OERs were selected to be used - without modification-, one was personalized and fourteen created for training purposes.
