Reusing water from different waste water treatment plants in Catalonia for agricultural purposes

Abstract:

The study reported here was carried out in 2005-2006 as the result of collaboration between the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) and the University of Barcelona. A diagnosis based on an evaluation of water quality was made of the re-use of water from waste water treatment plants for agricultural purposes in different parts of Catalonia. The data came from the ACA and visits to various sewage plants during this period when re-use was often not planned and came about due to the need for water for irrigation, in spite of the fact that the ACA had various projects for supplying water of an adequate standard for irrigation.
