Risk factors in home accidents of the elderly
Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine risk factors in home accidents in the elderly and their consequences. A quantitative field, analytical and cross-sectional approach study was conducted. A sample of 150 participants over 65 years old was chosen. Very relevant data were obtained. 68% of the sample was female, over 65 years old, married with children, primary school age; 74% were engaged in domestic chores and 31% were retired. The causes of accidents at home were obstacles in stairs 32% and irregularities in the floor 27.3%, and as a result there were falls with 34%, bruises with 24.6%, burns with 14.6%. evidencing that these people do not receive any training for the prevention of risk factors in the home nor have they received training for self-care, despite the fact that most suffer from catastrophic diseases such as high blood pressure (41.3), diabetes (30%), arthritis (16%). Osteoporosis (8%). It can be concluded that a high risk was evidenced in older women mainly by accidents and among these, by falls and the level of knowledge about accidents in older adults and families showed little knowledge.
