Abstract:

The present research aims to determine the presence of alexithymia and if age influences the development of Alexithymia in university students of the Technical University of Ambato, with this objective it is intended to compare the differences for the variables (sex, year of study) and finally perform a psychometric analysis of the instrument to use the Toronto Alexithymia scale (Tas 20). The sample consisted of 335 students of the Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Psychology / Clinical Psychology of both sexes, with an age range between 19 and 34 years of age from first to tenth semester. The results show an inverse relationship between alexithymia scores and age. In other words, the younger a student is, the higher the alexithymia score he obtained. Finally, when controlling for sex, the correlations did not have a significant variation, these results allow a better understanding of the variables and their interaction.
