Robot swarm development as a learning tool


Abstract:

Robotics presents essential opportunities and tools for educational purposes, which allows students to be involved in learning within heterogeneous knowledge environments, and helps to relate domains such as computer science, artificial intelligence, human sciences, social sciences and art. Robots can be used for different purposes, from simple tools to program with some specific behavior, to being companions with whom to engage in fruitful interaction for the purpose of Collaborative learning. The objective of this research is to develop a swarm prototype of autonomous robots as an educational tool to improve the learning of robotics and programming. Low-costequipment and materialsbased on the Node MCU Esp8266 microcontroller were used for the construction of the swarm. At the end of the work, a basic robust, scalable and flexible swarm model is available that allows combining several specific behaviors, which can be selected autonomously depending on the environment, and that can be transferred to physical robotic systems with the aim of solve different tasks related to different application areas in real environments.
