SOLAR AND WIND ENERGY: Is Sustainable Energy a Viable Way to Solve Ecuadorian Energy Problems

Abstract:

According to the Department of Energy and Environment of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), it is suggested that energy is central to sustainable development and poverty reduction efforts (UNEP 2008). Energy affects all aspects of development, such as social, economic and environmental–including livelihoods, access to water, agricultural productivity, health, population levels, education and gender related issues. It is also said that none of the Millennium Development Goals can be met without major improvement in the quality and quantity of energy services in developing countries (UNDP 2008).
