STATISTICAL ANALYSIS WHEN THE ASSUMPTIONS OF PARAMETRIC TESTS ARE NOT MET, IN THE CONTEXT OF PHYSICAL CULTURE RESEARCH

Abstract:

The verification of the assumptions of parametric tests constitutes one of the fundamental steps to develop a successful statistical analysis. The objective of the present research is to illustrate, by means of a real study, the implications and ways of dealing with the non-compliance of the assumptions of normality and homogeneity of the parametric Student’s t-tests and the analysis of variance, in the context of Physical Culture research. For this purpose, an analysis was carried out in jumping exercises with countermovement. A total of 116 students of the Pedagogy of Physical Activity and Sport career of the University of Guayaquil participated in the study. The variables jump height and RSI selected for the ANOVA and t-tests, respectively, verified non-compliance with the normality assumption. The mathematical transformations were not sufficient to correct the non-compliance of the former, although the RSI was normalized by means of a logarithmic transformation.
