Salient Pole Synchronous Machine Model using ATPDraw and MODELS including Damper Windings

Abstract:

This paper presents a detailed model of the Salient-Pole Synchronous Machine (SPSM) implemented in ATPDraw and MODELS. The machine model implementation is hybrid, one part includes the possibility of connection to the electrical network and the other uses programming in the MODELS language to represent the machine differential equations, including its damper windings. The model uses the flux linkages in each winding, the angular speed and the rotation angle as state variables. The model is developed using a space vector formulation that reproduces the traditional Park's transform technique. The main problem for modeling the machine in MODELS is the need to invert the inductance matrix, because in this programming module the arrays has only one dimension. The results obtained in this paper demonstrate the capability of ATPDraw and ATP-EMTP to perform very complex power system modeling using the MODELS tool.
