Sample size in biotechnology experiments with cell suspensions
Abstract:
The Bootstrap method is proposed to study the accuracy of mean estimates through the standard error, bias and confidence intervals, and to determine the optimal sample size using pilot data from biotechnology experiments involving the study of growth dynamics of cell suspensions. Dry weight (mg/ml) and cell number per ml from B6749 and V64-10 cultivars of Saccharum spp. were used. The optimal sample size was calculated using the minimum relative point from the function generated between the Bootstrap standard errors and sample size. A 50% reduction in sample size was found, as compared to classic methodologies.
