Screen readers: Technological tools for the educational inclusion of blind people

Abstract:

This study is focused on the use of screen readers in order to strengthen the learning of blind people in the Center of Special Common Education Imbabura and University Técnica del Norte, Ibarra-Ecuador. Applying a documentary and field approach a mixed method of qualitative of descriptive type was used. The way in which blind people learn was identified. Also, the factors affecting the learning process and the contribution of screen readers (JAWS and NVDA) application for the improvement of people with visual disability conditions were determined. The data obtained show that the application of screen readers allows blind people and those with a limited vision to have access to information, to more autonomy in communication and to the handling of new digital materials. In this regard, techno-pedagogical strategies promote the construction and development of equity and inclusion of vulnerable groups in education.
