Security review of industrial control systems based on plc siemens s7-1200
Abstract:
The grow of cyber-attacks to Industrial Control Systems have alerted about security issues on the protection of networked devices in the industrial sector. This article presents the results of an ethical hacking which was carried out to a public company in the city of Ambato. The methodology of the research was divided into the following stages: 1) scope-discovery, 2) vulnerability analysis, 3) intrusion and 4) reporting. In the first phase of the study, the security of networked devices on a test bed was assessed. Later on, the results were applied for determining vulnerabilities of the system of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition of the study case. As result, the existence of vulnerabilities commonly dismissed was corroborated. The study shows the importance of the updating and the correct configuration of the BIOS of industrial networked devices in order to safeguard the industrial system from possible cyber-attacks.
