Sediment distribution in El Tablazo Bay, Maracaibo System, Venezuela

Abstract:

The Bay of El Tablazo in Venezuela connects Lake Maracaibo to the Gulf of Venezuela. Most of the sediments in the southern part of the bay contain less than 50% of silt and clay, with the northern part containing 10 to 50% silt and clay. A comparison of these figures with those obtained in 1965 shows that the sedimentation of silt and clay is increasing in the bay, suggesting an acceleration in the eutrophication process.
