Semidiurnal effects on infrasound wave propagation at local distances

Abstract:

We present evidence of semidiurnal variations on infrasound wave propagation at equatorial latitudes using recordings of Volcán Tungurahua's acoustic processes as well as studying the temporal changes of atmospheric Green's functions. Analyzed data encompasses information from five stations located around Volcán Tungurahua, with distances between 4.8 and 6.4 km to the vent and azimuthal gaps not greater than 112o. From cross-correlations between network elements, we find that correlation strengths depend on the relative direction between the wind velocity and the line connecting the station pairs as well as the proximity and the line of sight between station pairs. In addition, we find that semidiurnal variation strength on wave propagation also depends on the proximity and line of sight between station pairs. These observations provide new insights into infrasound propagation at equatorial latitudes …
