Semmes Weinstein test in radiculopathy

Abstract:

Semmes Weinstein or monofilament test, used to evaluate patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathies, can be applied on the diagnostic evaluation and monitoring of patients with lumbosacral disc herniation and peripheral neuropathy (radiculopathy). In conclusion, this simple, low cost and high sensitive test allows a diagnosis (86,7% of cases) of peripheral neuropathy due to root compression by herniated discs.
