Series FACTS Devices for Maximization of Loadability and Minimization of Fuel Cost

Abstract:

In this paper, an approach is proposed for optimal allocation of series FACTS devices to minimize generation cost and maximize the power system loadability. The series compensation FACTS devices are connected in series with network and acts as under controlled voltage source. In this paper, an Improved Moth Flame Optimization (IMFO) is merged with Continuation Power Flow (CPF) and incorporated with both of Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) to solve the intended optimization problem. Multi objective function is proposed in this work comprised of minimization of generation cost, maximization of loadability, enhancement of voltage profile and reduction of power system losses. The proposed approach is examined on IEEE-30 bus test system. The obtained results by IMFO are compared to MFO and Particle Swarm Optimizer (PSO). Simulation results reveal the efficiency and robustness of the proposed approach.
