Shell cassava and beeswax residues as potential starting materials for the production of bioplastics

Abstract:

Shell cassava and beeswax residues were characterized as potential starting materials in the production of bioplastics. The effect of acid and alkaline hydrolysis on the formation of total reducing sugars (ART) in cassava starch, beeswax and its residue was studied. The characteristics of starch indicate that it can be used as thermoplastic starch. The best results of the ART were obtained for alkaline hydrolysis, being the beeswax residue fol-lowed by cassava starch, the best substrates for precursor fermentation processes of biopolymers.
