Shuar architecture: Creating order out the space from the myth

Abstract:

In this paper, we show the relationship between Shuar cosmogony and the architectonic event in the traditional Shuar house. The architectonical element’s meaning is present in the myth, the Shuar house is a sacred place and it provides protection of natural and supernatural powers. The pau is a ritual post; it is the center of the Shuar house. Regarding the Shuar house is divided in two spaces masculine (tankamash) and feminine (ekent) and this organization exists out the house, in the hinterland (garden-feminine; forest-masculine; sluggish part of a river-feminine; waterfall-masculine; rushing river-masculine).
