Significance of the sexual function and decision making in adolescents from two urban communities, through their values, beliefs and practices


Abstract:

The purpose of this qualitative research was to create a theoretical model to understand adolescents' values, believes and practices about their sexual function using a sample of 12 adolescents, residents of Simon Bolivar and Pueblo Nuevo urban communities in Merida city, Venezuela. Grounded Theory was the selected method, data collection was performed using in depth recorded interviews. The sample was obtained by saturation method; the validity of the data was established by adolescents' results. Four main categories emerged from the data: sexuality context, they described their experiences, what their parents and peers tell them about sexuality, and sexual knowledge acquired from high school education; attitudes regarding sexual experiences, in this aspect they stated their perception of the risks, fears, self-confidence in relationship to what they think and do, how their friends and peers behave, how …
