Simulation of a Condenser Component of a Thermal System Driven by Solar Energy for Seawater
Abstract:
Due to the population increase, the natural resources have been affected in a considerable percentage. This causes the scarcity of freshwater in several regions of the world, whereby different hybrid systems are analyzed that allow obtaining the highest efficiency in brackish water desalination. For this study, authors chose to use for the multistage flash distillation system (MSF) which makes up a large fragment of desalination capacity a worldwide. This one works powered by solar energy and takes full advantage of the hot steam that comes out of the turbine to be able to desalinate. In order to understand and know the condensation process, the ANSYS software is used to simulate a helical condenser with a sixteen-spiral coil, through which brine enters at a temperature of 26 °C, at 1 MPa of pressure, achieving an outlet temperature of 114.1 °C, which is why it is defined that under certain operating conditions the desalination of water can be much faster.
