Sistemas agrarios bananeros en La Maná
Abstract:
The banana production systems of La Maná Cotopaxi were studied to explain the agrary dynamics that take place in this zone. A relationship between the evolution of the banana producing sector of La Maná was established. Additionally, the five most representative types of producers, comprising those with large areas planted with banana, and those farmers with small banana planted areas, were determined. To characterize each type of producer some indicators were used: family and hired labour, yield, production destination, added value, agriculture and livestock income, agriculture and livestock income per hectare, and excess or profit. The use of family labor of small farmers is intended for the production of banana, unlike big farmers who are engaged in the administration. The agricultural income of farmers reached values of 3987 USD/year, in comparison, companies get up to 117 286 USD/year. The generation of surplus presents negative values -1 741 USD/year for farmers and up 112 254 USD/year year for big farmers. The trends are unfavorable for the evolution of small farmers that tend to become employees outside their farm, while the companies are consolidated as elite capitalist.
