Small scale agriculture in Barbados 1987.

Abstract:

In May 1987, the President of the Caribbean Development Bank urged an increase in local food production in order to reduce the net regional food import bill of US$500 million. In April 1987, the island's government launched a National Food Promotion programme, and the Minister of Agriculture declared he was committed to import substitution of foodstuffs in order to slash the nation's food bill. This field survey focussed on recent changes in small scale agriculture and on the problems faced by farmers. -from Authors
