Social innovation: mechanism of articulation of the University of the XXI century

Abstract:

Social innovation is an issue that is booming in Ecuador based on the country’s need to find allies to be able to face the wide margin of the population living in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability. The University becomes a strategic driver to achieve this objective of the State. This research aims to describe how the approach to social innovation becomes a mechanism for articulating the three substantive functions of the University: teaching, research and linkage with society. An exploratory study is applied, using the Documentary Bibliographic Method. It is concluded that social innovation requires the articulation of the three university substantive functions: the academy, as a transmitter of knowledge; research, as a producer of this knowledge; and the link with the community, as the instrument that allows to respond to the needs of the communities from that knowledge.
