Social movements and media cultures in defense of life and territory

Abstract:

This chapter explores ontological and epistemological trends in Latin America that are part of an “eco-territorial” turn. It examines the social movements and media cultures of the region that, as part of that turn, focus on the defense of life and territory. This chapter analyzes a new generation of autonomous, alternative, and community media collectives that are making visible socio-environmental conflicts across the region. It asks: How are ancestral, contemporary, and mediated forms of resistance and collaboration emerging around the defense of life and territory?
