Social robot paradigms: An overview

Abstract:

This article overviews the current and diverse paradigms about a social robot. We discuss and contextualize key aspects about the mechanisms used by this type of robot to relate with humans, other robots and its surrounded social environment: interaction, communication, physical and environmental embodiment and autonomy. We enrich current definitions and discuss about the crucial role of the purpose of this type of robots within nowadays society. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
