Software-Defined Network (SDN) Based Internet of Things within the context of low-cost automation

Abstract:

The aim of this research is to design and implement an SDN-IoT testbed, which shows the influence that Software-Defined Networks (SDN) have on the applications of IoT applied to industry 4.0. The IoT-SDN architecture is considered as the basis for the SDN-IoT testbed implementation. The testbed architecture design has three layers: process layer, SDN layer, and IoT application layer. In the process layer, two Industry 4.0 based processes are implemented. In the SDN layer two access points are implemented, a switch, an SDN controller and a firewall application for centralized control of traffic over the network, finally in the layer of IoT application implements a graphical interface that allows to control and monitor the processes of industry 4.0. In the implementation of the SDN, low cost and free code elements are used that are configured to work with the OpenFlow protocol.
