Solidarity Economy: Strategy for Local Development

Abstract:

Local development is a multidimensional process aimed at improving well-being of the population. Unlike other proposals, the territory has a strategic importance in the local strategies, which is configured as a development factor, as it bases the design and elaboration of policies adapted to territorial conditions. Within the framework of these programs, the solidarity economy has been promoted in the international arena for some years. Within the solidarity economy there are some forms of social organization such as cooperatives, mutual societies and social enterprises, which favor the achievement of the objectives proposed within the local development policies. Based on the above, this paper analyzes the role of solidarity economy in the context of local development initiatives.
