Space vectors and field oriented model of the induction machine using a matrix formulation

Abstract:

In this work, a new matrix method for the dynamic and static analysis of induction machines in space coordinates and field oriented equations is presented. The purpose of this method is to simplify the models' derivation. The new formulation is based on generalized machine equations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors modal analysis, symmetric components transformation and dq transformation. The dynamic model of the induction machine is developed without the use of sheet current concepts. Energy conversion law and the virtual work principle are applied. The formulation is applied to particular cases of steady state and transient analysis. The matrix method is easier than the traditional formulation and has a faster classroom implementation. However, a solid knowledge of complex number algebra's and linear analysis are necessary. The efficiency of the proposed methodology has been proved in undergraduate and graduate courses of electric and electronic engineers.
