Spatial pattern of snow avalanche path location and morphometry, Glacier National Park, Montana

Abstract:

Snow avalanche paths within a portion of Glacier National Park, Montana were identified, confirmed, indexed, mapped, and digitized into a GIS, and merged with other thematic coverages. A set of morphometric variables were collected for each path and organized in INFO tables and linked to spatial coordinates of the paths through a relational data base structure. Digital composites were produced. A correlation matrix was generated for a set of morphometric variables contained within the INFO tables to investigate whether paths controlled by topography, lithology, or structure also influenced the "character' of those paths. -from Authors
