Spinal nephroblastoma in a Rottweiler


Abstract:

A clinical case of canine spinal nephroblastoma is described. A 14-month-old Rottweiler dog was presented for diagnosis of progressive hind limb paresis and ataxia. Based on the neurological examination, a T-3-L-3 spinal cord lesion was suspected. Plan radiographs of the spinal column were unremarkable, cerebrospinal fluid revealed a mild increase of protein concentration (33 mg/dl) with a normal cell count, and a myelogram. outlined an intradural-extramedular mass of the spinal cord at T-13-L-1. At this moment, the owner rejected to continue with therapy and chose to have the dog euthanized. Histologically, the mass was composed of tubules and acini lined with epithelial cells having little cytoplasm. These epithelial cells were occasionally invaginated into a central lumen, resembling embryonic glomeruli.
