Standardization one methodology for to germinate seeds of interspecific hybrid Elaeis oleifera HBK× Elaeis guineensis J.

Abstract:

Field studies were conducted in Tumaco, Colombia, to improve the percentage of germination of seeds of Elaeis oleifera× Elaeis guineensis hybrid seeds. The effect of 3 treatments, ie stratum (external, middle and internal), seed moisture (18-22%, 20-24% and 22-26%) and days of heating (60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 days at 39 C) were determined. Based on the results, the ANOVA indicated significant differences for stratum, seed moisture, days of heating and for the interaction seed moisture× days of heating. It was shown that seeds of the external stratum of the bunch germinated 8.9 and 14.3% more than the middle and internal stratum, respectively. The best treatment for germinating seeds had the following combination of pre-treatments: soaking until the seeds reached 20% humidity; applying heat for 70 days at 39 C; and germination when the seeds reached 24% moisture in the second period of soaking. An average of 40.37% germination was achieved using this treatment. In addition to low germination, the hybrids had low vigour due to differential maturation of the embryos.
