State Feedback Control with Full Disturbance Compensation for an LC filtered Grid-forming Converter

Abstract:

The control of a grid-forming distributed energy resource unit (DER) requires the control of the voltage at its output filter. This is a fourth order system that can be controlled by state feedback. In this control scheme the rejection of disturbances such as load connections, disconnections, and modeling errors, can be improved by disturbance estimation and compensation. This article discusses the required number of disturbances to be estimated to completely compensate the effect of uncertainties on the voltage response. Experimental results show the superior transient and steady-state performance of the proposed control with full disturbance compensation, regarding its counterpart based on measured disturbance compensation.
