State-of-the-art-matrix analysis of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)

Abstract:

Nowadays, companies are immersed in a stiff competition. These companies are working hard to remain competitive in the global market. Efficiency in running the business has become a critical point, and companies are currently focusing on improvement initiatives. Since solid profitability is hard to achieve without sustained equipment performance, some of the initiatives are mainly centered in equipment maintenance. One of these initiatives is called Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). TPM is a continuous improvement process aiming to optimize equipment performance through identifying and eliminating disruptions from the process. It seeks to uncover the hidden capacity of ineffective equipment. Literature about this topic shows a growing interest through the years. This study conducts a thorough literature review and a State-of-the-Art-Matrix (SAM) Analysis is presented. Here, trends of the literature on Total Productive Maintenance are explored in order to help researchers in understanding what has been done in this topic so far, and identify areas for further research.
