Static and Changing Roles in Transdisciplinary Co-Design

Abstract:

Transdisciplinary computing arts experiences provide potential to merge practices and cultures from across disciplines to create an inclusive learning environment. However, this can be hard to do, especially when instructors within these spaces feel their expertise lies mainly within either computing or the arts. In our work, we analyzed facilitator reflections on the co-design and implementation of a 14-week online computing-arts experience designed to integrate computing, poetry, and visual arts. We found that focusing on the static and changing roles assumed by the co-designers provided a lens to understand how to build knowledge across one another's disciplines in the pursuit of creating new practices within transdisciplinary education.
