Stirling engine as a low cost tool to educate mechanical engineers

Abstract:

A program to introduce the Stirling engine as a low cost tool to educate students in mechanical engineering is developed. The idea of the program was born in a teachers' meeting talking about the difficulties students would have wishing to design and construct a thermal engine during their studies. A very didactic software to design classic kinematic alpha, beta and gamma engines plus Ringbom beta and gamma engines are created. The design of these small Stirling engines as a way to start with low cost research in thermal engines is elucidated.
