Structural modeling of organizational culture items and factors in universities from Guayas (Ecuador)

Abstract:

The primary objective of this study is to examine the relationships between factors that best explain organizational culture in the university context of Guayas, Ecuador. A questionnaire containing 31 items grouped into six factors is applied to a sample of 963 staff and last-year students from business degree programs of public and private universities located in Guayas, Ecuador. An exploratory factor analysis is performed. Structural modeling is applied through analysis of covariance to assess the relationships between the factors. The results confirm 22 variables of the original instrument, ratifying with high and statistically significant estimators five of the six factors considered: a) teamwork, b) climate and morale, c) involvement, d) supervision and e) meetings. These factors are interrelated and interdependent, giving shape and structure to the construct of the university culture. In conclusion, the organizational culture model analyzed is validated and enables making an updated construct that allows focalizing management on five key factors.
