Structural theory of thermoeconomics

Abstract:

The structural theory of thermoeconomics is presented in this paper. It is based on four general and acceptable premises, that permit to obtain the set of characteristic equations or primal of the system. From this set, the costing equations or dual is obtained. The relation primal-dual is bijective and depend on the descriptive function we use to build the characteristic equations. I.e., enthalpy, exergy or any other free-energy function. We prove in the paper that when we choose the relative free energy, Valero et al, 1992, as descriptive function, the corresponding primal-dual is only sensible to variations of quantities and independent of local variations of the enthalpy and entropy of the flows. The procedure for obtaining these thermoeconomic costs is parallel and close to the theory of exergetic cost, Valero et al., 1986, and because of that, simple and general and only constrained by the premises basing the theory.
