Structure of the levels of market concentration in the sector of elaborated pharmaceuticals of Ecuador, Period 2010-2017

Abstract:

The present study analyzes the market concentration of the medicinal chemical manufacturing industry using the Herfindahl-Hirschman index. To analyze the competition of the pharmaceutical sector in Ecuador, it was used the database of Superintendencia de Compañías about the sales incomes of companies that operate in the sector during the period 2010-2017. Likewise, using econometric estimations of ordinary Least Squares under fixed effects, it was obtained as results that the market concentration is not statistically significant respect of the incomes of companies in the sector.
