Study of the most common injuries in ecuadorian Rugby, senior category

Abstract:

Introduction: Rugby has sports been one of constantly popular in ecuador. The study of its general characteristics, and sports injuries caused by its specific practice, makes it possible in short or medium term to make specific decisions for technical-methodological personnel and specialized medical staff. Objective: To determine the type and location sports injuries in senior Ecuadorian Rugby players, making an inference between the sexes. Methods: The population of injured athletes of Ecuadorian rugby senior category (127 subjects, 107 men and 20 women) was studied from a non-probabilistic intentional sampling. The type and injuries location were extracted from medical records used in the 2017 Copa Jibaros. Results: The absolute and percentage frequencies were delimited by type and lesion location for both sexes. Significant differences were established between the injury type between the sexes (p = 0.007), and not significant between the injury locations from between sexes (p = 0.567). Individually no significant differences were established when comparing the proportions of each injury type of between sexes (Ligament injuries: r = 0.0958 and others), as well as the injury locations from between sexes (Ankle: r = 0.1394; Knee: r = 0.2664 and others). Conclusions: It is evident that most common injuries types are in ligaments and muscles (both sexes), and the most usual injuries locations are established in the ankle and knee, also for both sexes. There is a need to take strategic actions of prevention and treatment of the injury type, with emphasis on the male sex, as well as similar strategic actions for both sexes to injuries locations terms in the Ecuadorian rugby.
