Study of the tools to increase agricultural productivity and diversify production in rural marginalized and isolated Latin American communities.
Abstract:
Marginalized and Isolated Communities (MICs) exist in all the countries of the Latin-American region and their peculiarities turn them into areas specially affected by hunger. It is necessary to generate the instruments necessary to attach it from the regional and national political stances. In terms of cooperation for development, the improvement of agricultural technologies and physical capital has been the main mechanism to increase agricultural productivity and diversify production in the MICs. Our analysis of three cooperation projects implemented in MICs in Mexico, Peru and Ecuador allowed us to conclude that farmers need individual and group training to improve agricultural technologies in the mid and long terms. To adapt and update the physical capital, the best results are reached if rural families buy farm inputs and infrastructures, establishing and maintaining the latter themselves. This article also brings the essential elements that, in the practice, will enable attaining the best targets.
