Subtalar dislocation associated with a calcaneal fracture
Abstract:
A 41-year-old man was admitted with a subtalar dislocation associated with a calcaneal fracture of his right foot following a road traffic accident. He had had internal fixation of his right ankle 18 years previously and now had symptoms and radiological evidence of tibiotalar osteoarthritis. It was felt that the stiffness of the tibiotalar joint contributed to the unusual situation of a lateral subtalar dislocation associated with fracture of the calcaneum. The fracture of the calcaneum was thought to be due to the talar head impacting into the body of the os calcis. The dislocation was reduced under a general anaesthetic and he has since undergone a triple arthrodesis.
