Sulfuric Acid Promoted Molecular Rearrangement: Applications in Synthesis of Terpenoid Compounds

Abstract:

The organic compounds containing functional groups like ketone (saturated, unsaturated), alcohol (primary, secondary, tertiary), epoxide etc. undergo rearrangement with sulfuric acid, yielding unexpected products. Alkyl groups attached to the aromatic ring migrate with sulfuric acid from one position to another. Several N-phenyl-hydroxyamines rearrange with sulfuric acid to amino phenols. The oximes with sulfuric acid furnish substituted amides and lactams.
