Abstract:

The procedure for estimating solar radiation (Rs) is based on temperature and extraterrestrial radiation (Ra). For these latitudes, Ra exhibits a distinct annual cycle, which imposes an annual cycle on the estimated values of Rs. However, as seen in Figure S1 below, Rs in the wet páramo is constant throughout the year because of the compensating effect of the lack of cloud cover during the period when Ra is low. Therefore, Rs estimates are better from May to September because lower Ra yields lower Rs.
