Synchronous machine parameters from sudden-short tests by back solving

Abstract:

Calculation of synchronous machine parameters from sudden short circuit measurements has been subject to unnecessary assumptions and approximations. These assumptions are due in part to the unavailability of measurements, and in part to the cumbersome nature of the calculations needed to remove these approximations. This paper describes the nature of these approximations and a procedure to remove them. It also illustrates how a new philosophy for problem formulation and solution using backsolving programs can simplify and clarify the solution process. Finally, the paper introduces a new way of calculating eigenvalues based on a generalization of the eigenvalue problem. © 1989 IEEE
